Signs of (Home) Improvement

Stunned.

My reaction.

Saturday.

My husband ran to Lowe's for me to get a paintbrush and a paint liner so I could throw two coats of paint on the one little wall in our dining room that lacks any paint. He braved the winter storm to get me a paint brush because I thought I wanted to paint that night. Of course, it didn't happen. And still hasn't. But I hope to start tomorrow night after Claire goes to sleep.

The reason I was in such a state of astonishment? Not because Carl braved the snow-covered roads; but because he looked at bathroom vanities while at Lowe's and found one on sale that he thought would be perfect for our powder room.

Wow.

Carl has mentioned that he has grown tired of the sad state our white porcelain kitchen sink and the faucet are in despite my many attempts to brighten it with Softscrub. But never in my wildest dreams did I think he might have grown weary of the porcelain pedestal sink in the powder room.

I mean, we've known since we bought the house that the faucet needed to be replaced. And we bought a faucet, we've just never replaced it. (Like the ceiling fans and other items on the honey-do list). We did at least replace the unsightly brass light fixture, tore down the ridiculous border the previous owner's had put up, and painted the powder room.

Of course, I picked the Sunflower color of paint for the powder room when I was pregnant; but for the last year, I've wondered what on earth I was thinking when I selected it. I hate the color of the powder room. And I have hated the pedestal sink and the tile floor, too.

Not wanting to press my luck, though, I've never really mentioned it to Carl. He already thinks I hate our house. Which is not the case at all. I love our house, I've just been anxious to make this our home. With our touch. To rid it of any memory of what was someone else's home.

Carl took a picture of the vanity on his phone and showed it to me. LOVE! It's no wonder God brought us together. I mean an aviation enthusiast and a trumpet player do seem like an unlikely combination; but what we lack in similar interests we make up for in similar taste.

So Sunday. At Lowe's. We bought a new bathroom vanity for our powder room. We already have a faucet.

And paint is on sale at Sherwin-Williams until the end of the month so I suppose now is the time to find a better color for the walls. Tile is probably not going to happen; but it was a nice thought anyway. I'd rather have wood floors in our dining and living rooms.

One other bit of excitement. We did purchase a new faucet for our kitchen. And will (one of these days) start working on obtaining estimates to do the work we want done in our kitchen. So much fun!
